The Future of US Manufacturing
This work is based on data in the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) special report on the future of United States’ manufacturing (2011) and is linked with other data sources.
It compares two opposing views on the U.S. manufacturing sector: the government view that China’s policies undermine U.S manufacturing, and the private sector’s view that believes innovation plays a fundamental role. This visualisation considered only a few factors of the problem and it summarises only a part of the story as it appeared at the time of the publication (November, 2011)
This visualisation is the winning submission of a GE-sponsored challenge, and was featured in The Economist (November, 2011).
