We search, therefore we are

Google’s annual lists of most popular searches provide a rank of what people have been most interested about over the year. Google Zeitgest presents data by country and classifies it by searches, showing the things people typed most into the Google search box in that year. The data considered in the infographics refers to the most general categories and thus Trending Searches.

In 2015, the terror attacks on Charlie Hebdo and Paris topped the most searched list. Yet, topics related to entertainment and video games follow this rank. In Latin America, in particular, the most frequent searches were on entertainment, sports and natural disasters. In particular, 7 out of 10 of the most search terms were related to entertainment in countries like Brazil and Mexico, and 8 out of 10 in Peru.

Is entertainment the topic that interest us the most? Are these searches revealing who we are?
